Event Description:

In honor of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (#NBHAAD) and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original production, CNP and Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company co-sponsored by Georgia Equality present a virtual reading of Cheryl L. West's seminal play "Before It Hits Home."

The play stands as one of the first about HIV's impact on the Black community. A landmark play in the Black Theatrical canon, this moving drama examines HIV, politics, family, and love, while providing the audience incredible insights about Black people responding to HIV in the early years of the epidemic.

According to The Baltimore Sun in 1991 "The play is effective not because it preaches -- which it rarely does -- or because of the loaded subject of AIDS. It works because it makes the audience re-examine the nature of familial love, understanding and responsibility."
